FKA Twigs Just Made an Angelic Paris Fashion Week Appearance

Pierpaolo Piccioli might have sent subdued black and blue puffers and classic trench coats down the runway at his Valentino menswear show today, but the accompanying musical performance proved far more elaborate. FKA Twigs opened the show with stripped down renditions of “Mary Magdalene” and “Cellophane” from her most recent album, Magdalene, which came out last year. It’s not the first time the alt-pop musician has come out in support of the brand: Twigs sat front row in a matching cow print-inspired bucket hat and boots at Valentino’s Haute Couture fall 2019 show last summer.

This time, in contrast to the pared-back collection, Twigs’s performance look took things in a more flamboyant direction. The singer ascended to the stage in a shimmering, chainmail-effect mask and an ethereal floor-length Valentino haute couture lace gown embroidered all over with delicate flowers. Even though the fashion set likely had their eyes fixed on Piccioli’s newest collection, Twigs’s breathtaking onstage ensemble more than threatened to steal the show.
