How Princess Diana’s Sisters Reacted Differently To Her Relationship With Prince Charles

Princess Diana’s older sisters had very different reactions to her newfound fame after she started dating Prince Charles

In the book “Diana: Her True Story,” royal author Andrew Morton said that one of Princess Diana’s sisters was envious of her while the other one was more concerned.

“Diana’s sister, Sarah, for so long the Spencer girl in the spotlight, now had to make way for Diana. While she was happy for her younger sister, she admitted to being rather envious of Diana’s newfound fame… It took her some time to adjust to her new billing as sister to the future Princess of Wales,” he said.

Before Prince Charles and Princess Diana started dating, the future King first romanced Lady Sarah. In the book “The Duchess: The Untold Story,” royal author Penny Junor said that the couple’s relationship abruptly ended in 1977.

During an interview, Lady Sarah said that Prince Charles was a fabulous and romantic person but she wasn’t in love with him. She also said that their relationship was platonic because she only saw him as the brother that she never had.

According to Junor, Lady Sarah’s comments did not sit well with Prince Charles because they publicly bruised his ego. As a result, the heir to the throne sought comfort from Camilla Parker Bowles.

Meanwhile, Morton said that Lady Jane Fellowes’ reaction to Princess Diana dating Prince Charles was quite different from Lady Sarah.

“Jane took a more practical approach. While she shared in the bride-to-be’s euphoria, as the wife of the Queen’s assistant private secretary, she couldn’t help but be concerned about how Diana would cope with royal life,” Morton said.

Lady Sarah and Lady Jane were recently photographed at Archie’s christening. The sisters took Princess Diana’s place in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son’s private baptism since the Princess of Wales has already been dead for over two decades.

Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, wasn’t featured in the official photo.
