Met Gala romance report: Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx debut; Lady Gaga, Jeff Bezos, Cardi B come solo

As usual, the Met Gala Monday night was an occasion for fashion-loving celebrities to ascend some famous stairs and show off their most elegant, cutting-edge or outrageous looks.

The Met Gala also is a night for celebrities to make other kinds of statements, often about who they’re dating, who they’ve just married or how they’ve become proudly single.

The proudly single category would belong to Lady Gaga, one of the co-hosts for the glittery Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2019 Costume Institute Gala. The “A Star is Born” actress made a one-of-a-kind statement for the “Camp: Notes on Fashion”-themed event by essentially performing a striptease as she walked the red carpet.

The “Bad Romance” singer arrived in a voluminous hot pink gown, which she removed to reveal not one, but two elegant gowns underneath, and, finally, sparkling black lingerie and fishnets.

Gaga made her statement without an escort — not her “A Star is Born” director and rumored lover Bradley Cooper, and certainly not her former fiance Christian Carino, whom she broke up with just before the Academy Awards in February.

Meanwhile, Cardi B made a similar fashion statement by wearing a very big, very maroon dress. The hip-hop star also arrived solo, though her rapper husband Offset took to Twitter to gush about how she “killed” the Met Gala.

Meanwhile, other celebrities wanted to show that they were proudly coupled up. That notably was the case for actors Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx. The pair have generated many headlines since 2013, but only as a rumored couple — or as a couple that’s on the verge of splitting up.

But on Monday Night, Holmes, 40, and Foxx, 51, made their public debut as a couple. So, their romance is no longer a rumor, and they didn’t look like they were on the verge of splitting up.

People magazine noted that Holmes, famous as the ex-wife of Tom Cruise, and Academy Award winner Foxx didn’t actually walk the Met Gala’s red carpet together.

However, they posed for photos inside the event in front of a flower wall and in the main Met hall, “looking cozy with their hands around one another,” People reported. That’s about as close to a Met Gala debut as you will get.

No such Met Gala debut came for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, who reportedly are ready to be seen together in public — but maybe not just yet.

Bezos, Amazon’s founder and CEO, apparently turned up at the Met Gala solo, according to People, where the 55-year-old world’s richest person mingled and was photographed with Kendall Jenner, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Jared Leto.

Sanchez was nowhere to be seen at the Met Gala, even though she was spotted in New York City with Bezos the night before.

People and Page Six reported that the couple were photographed leaving a West Village restaurant. It’s the first time the two have been seen together since news of their affair broke in the pages of the National Enquirer in early January. The scandal led to Bezos announcing that he was ending his 25-year marriage, and making his ex-wife Mackenzie a very wealthy woman in her own right. It also prompted Sanchez to end her marriage as well.

Bezos and Sanchez, 49, have vowed to stay physically apart until their divorces are finalized, though they remain “deeply in love,” Page Six reported. There were reports they would make their public debut as a couple at the Academy Awards on Feb. 24, but that didn’t happen.

Other couples who made a big splash Monday night were newlyw Joshua Kushner and Karlie Kloss, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, and Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, fresh from eloping to Las Vegas. But there clearly was nothing spontaneous about the color-coordinated outfits Turner and Joe Jonas wore.

“Game of Thrones” star Turner, 23, arrived in a custom, sequined Louis Vuitton two-piece outfit that looked like a jumpsuit, while the Jonas Brothers band member wore a complementary black ensemble that featured multi-colored details, People said.

“Joe has his own style. But yes, they like to coordinate,” a stylist told People. “They tend to do that.”

Speaking of color-coordinated, Met Gala regulars Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady showed up in complementary hues of red and pink. The New England Patriots quarterback wore a crimson velvet tux, while supermodel Bundchen donned a pale pink dress.

Pink also was the color choice for Alex Rodriguez. The former New York Yankees slugger wore a shiny pink jacket that worked well with the sparkly, beaded gown and wig worn by his new fiancee Jennifer Lopez.

And speaking of the newly engaged: Katy Perry’s fiancee Orlando Bloom didn’t appear by her side as she ascended the staircase. But then, no one could get close to Perry Monday night.

She was dressed, yes, as a chandelier. Her date for the night was the designer of the chandelier dress, Jeremy Scott for Moschino.
