Mimi Wade AW20 show review

Mimi Wade

Designer, artist and Tatler Contributing Fashion Editor Mimi Wade presented her latest collection as part of London Fashion Week this weekend. Known for her babydoll dresses that quickly gained cult status, Wade counts Lady Amelia Windsor and Dua Lipa as fans of the brand.

For AW20, she takes on superhuman inspiration, collaborating with Warner Bros on the new box office smash Birds of Prey, Margot Robbie’s first spin off movie as Harley Quinn.

For her first stand alone runway show, Wade reinterprets the iconic costume of the comicbook character using the classic colourblock contrast of black and red in mohair cardigans and the perfect amount of marabou feathers. Elsewehere in the collection, cheerleader costumes are brought up to date with Americana imagery, delicate lace and chainmail.

Long black trenches paired with knickers and bedazzled bras, dramatic satin skirt suits and thigh high pointed boots all scream glamourous villainess with Wade’s signature sexy sensibility.

With saving the world a theme for the new collection, sustainability was a big part of the design process and materials used were upcycled for the most part.

She also teams with Katie Hillier’s JM Davidson for pom pom style handbags and Vicki Sarge once again for the dazzling jewellery pieces.

The collection is set to be big with not only the fashion crowd but style-forward comicbook geeks too and is sure to be seen on London’s cool-girl set as soon as it hits shelves.
