Five days before Lady Gaga is scheduled to walk the red carpet at the Academy Awards for “A Star is Born,” she has announced that she has split from her fiance Christian Carino after two years of dating.
“It just didn’t work out,” the representative said. “Relationships sometimes end. There’s no long dramatic story.”
E! News first reported last week that the couple had possibly split. Breakup speculation was sparked by fans noticing that Carino didn’t attend the 2019 Grammy awards on Feb. 10, where Gaga performed “Shallow,” her signature song from “A Star is Born.”
Gaga also wasn’t wearing her $400,000 engagement ring, and she did not thank Carino during her acceptance speech for best pop duo/group performance. (She and her “Star is Born” director and co-star Bradley Cooper won the honor for “Shallow.”)
But more evidence that Gaga’s relationship was over came on Valentine’s Day, when she posted a photo of her new tattoo celebrating “La Vie En Rose,” which she sings in “A Star Is Born.” Gaga said nothing about Carino in her caption: “Happy Valentine’s Day. A tattoo toast to ‘la vie en rose’ by the beautiful @winterstone my spinal cord is now a rose.”

But now it’s official: Gaga and Carino aren’t together anymore, according to People.
For a segment of the “A Star is Born” fanbase, this news will confirm what they have long believed, that Gaga is really meant to be with Cooper, with whom she generated lots of on-screen sexual heat and off-screen mutual admiration and affection.
However, Cooper and Shayk also were dogged by reports in the fall that Cooper was “miserable” in the relationship, perhaps because he missed the intense, soulmate-like connection he and Gaga said they enjoyed together while filming “A Star is Born.”
The famously private Cooper and Shayk sought to dispel those reports by putting on a glamorous show together at awards ceremonies the past two months.
Now, it appears that Gaga will be attending the Oscars solo — unless she joins Cooper or Shayk or enlists a good friend to accompany her.
Gaga is nominated for two Oscars — best actress and best original song. “A Star is Born” is up for a total of eight awards, including nominations for best actor for Cooper and for best picture.
They also attended the Golden Globe awards earlier in the month, where she and three others won the Golden Globe for best original song for “Shallow.” After the award was announced, Gaga turned to Carino and gave him a tender kiss, which sent social media into “a meltdown,” Glamour reported.
It’s not clear how long Gaga and Carino had been engaged before that event. The two were first linked in early 2017, after Lady Gaga headlined the Super Bowl Halftime show. She had broken off her engagement to actor and model Taylor Kinney about six months earlier.
